I should have started this a lot sooner, but I honestly didn’t expect this experience to be so chaotic! When we were offered the opportunity to open our home to an orphan from the Ukraine for Christmas, I jumped at the chance. The last year of my life has been centered around paying it forward in the name of my son, and this would be a perfect opportunity for me to see the difference we were making firsthand.
We chose Zhenya out of a line up of pictures of children. Those who know me know I would naturally be drawn to his red hair and freckles. At first sight he captured my heart. We were blessed with the addition of his brother Valerii at the last minute and he has opened my heart in ways I never expected.
This journey has been far from easy. Between language barriers and lack of information, our difference in culture, food, and activities, and just the walls these two had up when they entered our lives, most days have been a struggle. But the happy moments, the moments where I can relish in the beauty of offering these boys a love they have never know, even if it is for a fleeting moment, have made this worth it all.
They couldn’t have come at a worse time for our family as my father has deteriorated in the last two weeks. But together we have all made it work and we have become a family I am so proud to call mine.
Looking forward to sharing the rest of our journey with you all! Check back for updates! ❤️
